Earth Month Teen Video Contest Winners

The 2nd Annual Earth Month Teen Video Contest, sponsored by the Department of Environmental Services, Lex Brodie’s Tire Company, GeoTech Solutions and KHON2, is dedicated to a new generation of talented teen filmmakers with unique ideas, energy, community connections, and meaningful storm water pollution prevention message that will benefit their communities. You are all winners! Videos were submitted by Aiea Intermediate, Campbell High, Farrington High, Kaiser High, Kalani High, Kamehameha Middle, Kapolei High, Moanalua High, Waianae High, and Waianae Intermediate in five categories: floatables, nutrients, sediment, toxic substances, and best of show. A kickoff was held in November 2007 at Kapolei Hale.* This year’s judges were Iwalani Sato and Markus Owens of the Department of Environmental Services, Jeff Coelho and Robert Pritchard of the Department of Customer Service.

Here are the results of the contest.


Best In Show winner and recipient of $1,000 cash from Lex Brodie’s Tire Company is the team of Edrecco Eli, Jerome Holloway, and Ceythan Kamealoha of Waianae High for "The Bottle." Mr. John Allen III is the sponsoring teacher.

Category winners and recipients of $500 cash from GeoTech Solutions are:

Winners will also be recognized at the City and County of Honolulu’s Earth Month Kickoff on Monday, March 17, 2008 at Kapolei Hale; and, will receive an award from KHON2. All winning videos will air on KHON2 in March and April 2008. KGMB and KITV will air the videos in April 2008. Residents can view all videos at www.cleanwaterhonolulu.com and at selected City satellite halls.
